Review- “Butterfly Valve”- Autobodies
In the case of Autobodies, they, or rather he, occupies a space somewhere close to The Wilderness of Manitoba. Autobodies isn’t quite folk, but they feature many songs with vocal harmonies and rich imagery that had me mentally comparing the two acts.
Autobodies can probably be most accurately called a dream-pop butterfly valve act. The melodies are often soft and enticing, with romantic titles like “Paranormal Snow Flakes” and “Boots, Snow and Stars.”
The songs are generally just the right length- around three minutes, with the exception of the last song, “Where the Wheat Fields Stopped.” This song is a little over six minutes but has a great balance of the frontman Kent Eliuk’s imagery-filled lyrics as well as absolutely amazing instrumental solos that comprise the song’s latter half.
My only complaint is that Eliuk could have used vocal harmonies a little more. The moments I enjoyed the most were when I was spellbound by the multiple voices creating a beautiful sound. A few songs became a little bit forgettable because of that.
