Butterfly Damper Torque

2010-11-10

Trying to size the actuator required to operate my Eccentric Butterfly valve Damper. To do so, I am trying to determine the Hydroynamic Torque that air flow would induce in the damper's installed state.
The software I am using is the Cosmos FloWorks plug-in for SolidWorks.
The approach I am thinking of taking is to measure the force and torque on the entire surafce area of the disc assembly. The issue with this approach will be that the CFD software only measures the max, min and average force and torque values on the surface area of the disc assembly. What I think I would require to deterine my hydrodynamic torque would be the summation of the force and torque on the entire surface area of the disc assembly.
The input parameters I have are the mass flow rate of 15.3215 lb/s at the inlet. The software lets you specify the Approximate Pressure at the inlet which I will set to the inlet pressure of the process of 14.477 PSIA. The pressure drop of the system is 0.725 PSI, so a value of 13.752 PSIA is used for the Static Pressure at the outlet. The operating temperature is 113 dgrees Farenheit.
